HSC Condemns Food Stamp Rollback for 755,000

With a heavy heart, we share the unfortunate news that despite a nationwide uproar and record number of public comments opposing a deleterious rollback of SNAP proposed by the White House, the rule has been implemented.

This removes 755,000 people from critical food access through the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program, and will have a significantly negative ripple effect across the human services sector as our agencies work harder to meet the surge of need this rule will create across our community and the country.

This also circumvents the will of Congress, which had come together in a bipartisan fashion in 2018 to fully support SNAP. The White House’s unilateral action, which will go into effect in April 2020, is without support or justification, and we urge a reconsideration of this regulatory action.
